It includes the generic "mysql" module which can be used to connect to all versions of MySQL, an improved "mysqli" module for MySQL version 4.1 or later, and the pdo_mysql module but it wasn't too much trouble and the solutions to the problems I encountered were easily found by searching online. It's not so easy to find solutions online because of all the possible environments - OS, OS version, dependencies etc.

If the package is installed, double-check that it's enabled (/etc/php5/conf.d/mysql.ini is the place to look).
