Thanks! Apple has already fixed the Ethernet software problem for users going forward. So IF you have a time machine backup you can restore the system from a 1-2 day earlier backup. I never had a problem with 10.11, and this is someone thats always using the command line.
Edit: This is what I was told to do to fix it, and it worked for me: Open \Macintosh HD\LibraryPreferences\SystemConfiguration and trash NetworkInterfaces.plist Reboot and I haven't had any more issues. However, if you have proper procedures in place, you don't make those modifications to the main code branch. Worked like a charm: after hours of frustrating troubleshooting I narrowed down the problem to the ethernet port and then found your posted update. I did assume that it was the latest software because of how many Macs don't have Ethernet any more, but it's still really annoying that they did something like this. http://seesbg.com/not-working/arris-ethernet-ports-not-working.html Apple fixed the offending update, but if you installed the update and still see problems, Apple has a support article for troubleshooting and fixing your disabled ethernet.
Even so, thunderbolt bridge was visible in my networking preferences. Really smooth. If you can connect to WiFi, your Mac will update to version 3.28.2 automatically, or you can follow the steps below to restore it manually. Any idea why it's not working?

AppleCare: "most likely not caused locally..." Just took me 2h on the phone to figure this out. I tried restarting, shutting down, manually entering network settings, reinstalling drivers for ethernet converter, and just about any other simple solution, none of it has worked.
