If you have a small vacuum leak the control line won't have enough oomph at idle to allow coolant to flow through the heater core, thus you get cool air at only cold! Also do you know, is the mass air flow sensor and ignition module a possible cause for the car shaking and stalling occassionally? check over here Not knowledgeable on your model but unfortunately for most vags the pump although cheap to replace the part but the labour is around 2.5 hours.
So you'll go to flush it and think wow it has good flow. only cold!
