Many cars end up with leaking heater core. Easy to see and get too if you remove the battery. The check light could have been from a loose o-ring on the dip-stick which has caused a small air leak before (I had checked oil the same day) but the lack Temp gauge would not rise. Other garage diag'd the temp sensor, no change. Will let you know what I find. I presume:- Drain Coolant Find stat, remove housing and change Refill coolant (new) Run engine with filler cap for coolant housing to run any air out Is it that easy? I suppose a faulty ECT sender could cause a coolant performance malfunction, but far and away the most common cause is a worn out THERMOSTAT, which is a little spring operated Either not opening at all or always being open or opening too quickly? (I assume its not stuck open cause the car heats up and it probably wouldn't at all with Then there are the radiator hoses and the pressure cap, all functioning to aid cool the engine in one way or another. Mine was a little more complicated than a faulty sender though.
